The meeting was excellent. Everyone arrived on time. The coffee was good. Your presentation worked. The customer asked intelligent questions, nodded thoughtfully and even said, “This is very interesting.” You returned to the hotel mentally calculating next year’s revenue. Three weeks later, nothing has happened. Welcome to Nordic business.
A successful meeting in Sweden, Denmark, Norway or Finland does not necessarily mean a successful sale. Nordic buyers are often polite, professional and genuinely curious—even when they are nowhere near a decision. The mistake is confusing a pleasant atmosphere with commercial progress. Instead, watch what happens next.
Did they ask for pricing, references or implementation details? Did they involve another colleague? Did someone suggest a date for the next discussion? These signals matter more than compliments.
Nordic decision-making is often built around credibility, internal alignment and low-risk progress. Dramatic closing techniques can therefore feel less persuasive than slightly alarming. Your job after the meeting is not to send another 34-slide presentation explaining how innovative you are. Send what you promised. Answer clearly. Suggest one concrete next step. Make it easy for the customer to continue.
Because in Nordic business, “Great meeting” is encouraging. But “Can we meet again on Thursday?” is considerably better.
