Denmark: Please Get to the Point While the Coffee Is Still Warm

A Danish business meeting is not the ideal place to spend fifteen minutes explaining how your company was founded in 1997... By minute three, someone may already be wondering what you actually sell.

 

Danish business culture tends to reward directness, commercial clarity and momentum. Buyers often appreciate people who explain the problem, the solution, the price and the next step without requiring a documentary series. This does not mean relationships are unimportant. They are. But credibility is often built through competence, honesty and getting to the point.

 

If a Danish manager asks, “What does it cost?” this is not necessarily an invitation to discuss your company values first. Give the number. The same applies to problems. Danish communication can be refreshingly direct. A proposal may be described as “not good enough” without anyone needing counselling afterwards. The criticism is usually aimed at the idea, not the person.

 

For international sellers, the danger is over-presentation. Too much corporate storytelling, unnecessary background and decorative language can make a strong offer feel weaker. In Denmark, confidence is useful. Brevity is often even better.
